Near New Haven, CT this weekend? The 2022 NEURON c Near New Haven, CT this weekend? The 2022 NEURON conference is being held in person at Quinnipiac University Frank Netter School of Medicine in North Haven CT, Sunday April 24 at 9 AM (EST). This is a conference that is co-sponsored by Quinnipiac University and University of Connecticut. As such, registration is free to ALL Quinnipiac and UConn personnel (faculty & students), and ticket prices for non-QU/UConn personnel vary by category and can be found on the registration page (link in bio).

“NEURON, or the Northeast Under/graduate Research Organization for Neuroscience, is an organization that provides an open forum for undergraduates and graduates to discuss their research and enhance collaboration among neuroscience educators.” - NEURON website.

There will be a keynote address, multiple workshops and presentations including: a data blitz from undergraduate and graduate students, careers in science panel, a tour of Quinnipiac's Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and School of Nursing facilities!

The keynote address will be given by Dr. Gerard Sanacora, PhD, MD, who’s talk is titled "The Long and Winding Road; Ketamine’s Journey from Proof-of-Concept Drug to FDA Approved Antidepressant Medication". 

Masks are required for this event, and will be provided if participants do not have one.

Get ready to mark your calendars! 🗓 The Nu Rho Get ready to mark your calendars! 🗓 The Nu Rho Psi chapters at Rutgers University (β-NJ) & SUNY Old Westbury (ε-NY), in collaboration with neuroscience students at Connecticut College, are hosting their third annual virtual AXON conference this weekend! It will be taking place on Saturday, April 23rd from 12 PM - 4 PM (EST), and will showcase the National Nu Rho Psi theme for 2021-2022 on “The Neuroscience of Identity and Bias”. This is a free event and all are welcome to attend (registration information below)! 🧠

This conference started with the purpose of “Advancing Cross-Disciplinary Outreach in Neuroscience” (AXON), and offers a unique opportunity that centers undergraduate neuroscience researchers across multiple campuses. This conference will allow attendees to meet, connect, and network with fellow neuroscientists and researchers, as well as to learn about some awesome research happening and tips to get involved!

The conference will feature a keynote speaker, undergraduate researchers presenting their work, poster sessions, a graduate panel group discussion, awards, and will be followed with a Nu Rho Psi induction. REMINDER: Applications for the neuroscience study REMINDER: Applications for the neuroscience study abroad opportunity at Harlaxton College in England are due March 1, 2022! 

This is an ongoing study abroad partnership between the University of Evansville and Harlaxton College. Harlaxton College is the University of Evansville’s study abroad center based in a Victorian manor house in Grantham, England, about an hour north of London by train. This year the opportunity has been opened to undergraduate neuroscience students from all over the country! 

When: Summer 2022 - July 11 thru July 30

Course: The Neurobiology of Stress & Resilience

Course description: A 3-credit, team-taught, seminar course exploring the neurobiological factors that contribute to an individual's risk and their resilience to stressors across the lifespan. The seminar will be facilitated by faculty with relevant expertise and will include trips to Edinburgh Scotland, Nottingham and London England to explore course topics at museums, labs, and tours. Three neuroscience faculty will collaborate to teach material focusing on key factors influencing both vulnerability and resilience to stress. Topics of focus will be related to: Neuroendocrinology, Neuropharmacology, & Motivation & Emotion.

The program cost is $5000/student. Program application deadline is March 1 and the initial $300 deposit will be due to the University of Evansville by April 1, 2022. Nu Rho Psi will be sponsoring four (4) $1,000 travel grants for undergraduate Nu Rho Psi  members - information will be in our next post, and can be found in the meantime under the “Awards & Grants” tab in our Linktree.

Students will likely need to contact their neuroscience advisor or their home institution’s study abroad office to ensure that the study abroad credit will transfer to their home institution and count towards their degree.
