> ONGOING – NEW! Undergraduate Emergent Research Hardship Grant
The Nu Rho Psi Undergraduate Research Hardship Grants support high-quality research projects conducted by inducted undergraduate student members of Nu Rho Psi who have experienced a lack/loss of funding that has significantly impacted an active research project.
Funding may defray direct research costs and/or provide direct student financial support, up to $1,000 per award, subject to the amount requested and funding availability. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and require a statement of hardship from the student’s faculty mentor that outlines how the student’s research has been impacted. Unlike the standard NRP Undergraduate Research Grant, this award does not include additional travel funding for presentations at the Annual Society for Neuroscience Meeting.
Submission deadline: Ongoing (rolling basis)
Awardee Notification: Approximately 30 days.

Applications for the 2025 meeting have closed; watch for updates for the 2026 meeting.
Are you presenting a paper at the 2025 Society for Neuroscience meeting in San Diego, November 15th-19th? Nu Rho Psi members may apply for a Nu Rho Psi-sponsored travel award.
Two members from each region will be selected to receive $1000 in travel support. Checks will be distributed after SfN, pending the National Office receiving receipts.
To apply, you will provide:
- Name, NRP Chapter, and Region
- A Personal Statement discussing how attending SfN will benefit you (500 word max)
- Documentation showing your Abstract has been submitted for presentation at SfN 2024
- A letter from your Research Advisor supporting your application for a travel grant. The advisor should comment on other potential sources of funding.
- A spreadsheet of estimated travel expenses (airfare/hotel/etc and mileage if driving) and supporting documentation

Nu Rho Psi Chapter Activity Grants support chapter activities promoting public awareness of the brain and/or service to the community. Chapters are encouraged to organize activities around a common theme, which will be announced each spring.

> December 2026 – The Dr. Robert C. Switzer, III annual $2,000 tuition Scholarship in Neuroscience
The Dr. Robert C Switzer, III Scholarship is an annual $2,000 tuition scholarship funded by NeuroScience Associates/NSA Labs. The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize an outstanding Nu Rho Psi student member majoring (or minoring) in Neuroscience who is achieving excellence in their academic programs and has significant potential in the field of neuroscience research.
The tuition scholarship will be awarded to a student member of Nu Rho Psi – The National Honor Society in Neuroscience who meets the following eligibility requirements:
- Current undergraduate member of Nu Rho Psi in good standing.
- Major (or minor) in Neuroscience with a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.75
- Applicant must file the annual FAFSA and not receiving gift aid (scholarships, grants and benefit assistance/funding) that meets the annual cost of tuition at their institution.
- Demonstrates through their curriculum how the study of neuroscience contributes to their career goals.
Applicants should submit:
- A personal statement (max. 500 words) outlining their career goals in neuroscience.
- Most recent academic transcript.
- Financial Aid Transcript detailing all grant, scholarship, or non-loan financial assistance for the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Letter of support from the Nu Rho Psi Advisor at their institution.
Applicants must be a current undergraduate student at the time of application.
Application deadline is December 1, 2025.

Applications will be reviewed by the National Council Selection Committee with final selection being made by March 1, 2026.
This tuition scholarship is to honor the memory of Dr. Robert C. Switzer, III a strong supporter of young neuroscientists. His generous contributions to Nu Rho Psi supported the research and professional travel of many, many undergraduate neuroscience students. Dr. Switzer was the founder of NeuroScience Associates/NSA Labs, a globally renowned organization providing guidance and expertise in the application of all varieties of neurohistology stains. NSA operates with the goal of increasing productivity and enhancing the success of their clients by providing superior histologic services in a cost-effective manner.

> April 2026 – Undergraduate Research Grants for Summer 2026 and Academic Year 2026-2027
The Nu Rho Psi Undergraduate Research Grants support high quality research projects conducted by undergraduate student members of Nu Rho Psi by defraying direct research costs and/or by providing direct student financial support. There is a single application deadline regardless of whether the research project will be completed during Summer 2025 or during the 2025-26 Academic Year.
NOTE!! Recipients of the Nu Rho Psi Undergraduate Research Grants are eligible to receive up to $1,000 in non-competitive funding to present research conducted as part of the Nu Rho Psi Undergraduate Research Grant at the Annual Society for Neuroscience Meeting. Upon receiving an undergraduate research grant, students will receive criteria and application information.

One of the above grants will specifically be recognized as the G. Andrew Mickley Undergraduate Research Grant. Preference will be given to Behavioral Neuroscience projects that advances the body of knowledge regarding how the brain learns and remembers and is of sufficient scope that publication or wide dissemination of the results is likely. The funds to support this grant were graciously donated by Neuroscience Associates (https://www.neuroscienceassociates.com/) in honor of Prof. G. Andrew Mickley, who served as the founding Executive Director of Nu Rho Psi until 2016.
> May 2026 – Chapter of the Year Awards
The Nu Rho Psi Chapter of the Year Award recognizes the accomplishments of a Nu Rho Psi chapter for excellence in carrying out the mission of Nu Rho Psi on the local, regional and/or national level during the 2023-24 academic year. The award recipient will be recognized at the 2024 Nu Rho Psi National Meeting and at the Annual SFN Meeting. Profiles of the winning program will be featured on the Nu Rho Psi website and disseminated to the global neuroscience community as a means of sharing successful practices in fostering neuroscience research, professional development, neuroscience education, and community service.

> May 2026 – Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award 2026
Nu Rho Psi will recognize annually one Faculty Nu Rho Psi member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, service & advocacy, research, and/or other significant contributions in furthering the world’s understanding & education of neuroscience.
Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year
Purpose: To recognize one Nu Rho Psi member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, service & advocacy, research, teaching and/or other significant contributions in furthering the understanding & education of neuroscience
- Nominee is an active Nu Rho Psi member
- Nominee has made significant contributions to Nu Rho Psi at either the local, regional, or national level (e.g. Nu Rho Psi chapter advisor, active involvement in local Nu Rho Psi chapter, served as a regional/national Nu Rho Psi councilor or officer)
- Nominee has made significant, unique, or innovative contributions to the field of neuroscience on either a local or national level.

- Awardee must have made significant contributions to furthering the mission of Nu Rho Psi during their undergraduate or graduate career
