Sci-MI is a non-profit that supports education equity by decreasing access barriers to STEM education through their free, virtual programming. By virtually connecting high school students in under-served communities and passionate volunteer STEM researchers/educators across the country, Sci-MI creates an engaging opportunity for students to explore topics in neuroscience and develop their research & presentation skills 🧠

This volunteer opportunity asks 5 hours per week for 5-6 weeks during the summer to virtually supervise and support 1-3 high school mentees pursuing a research project in neuroscience. Sci-MI will provide training, materials, and career development support for chosen Summer Mentors.

Requirements:

  • Current undergraduate or beyond
  • 1+ semester- or summer-long experience in research in a relevant field. This can include laboratory courses attached to a course, or independent research.
  • Ability to communicate online (slack, email, google meet, etc) and manage G Suite (google docs, sheets, slides, etc)
  • Passion for teaching
  • Cross-cultural humility and good interpersonal skills
