Happy Friday, everyone! Is your calendar marked fo Happy Friday, everyone! Is your calendar marked for October 22nd, 2020, yet? Our Annual Member Meeting will be taking place virtually this year, on that day, and we want you to join us!

When: October 22nd, 2020. 7 PM EDT/4 PM PDTZ
Where: Zoom!
Register through the website listed in this photo. It’s also the link in our bio for your convenience!

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email from James Coleman (he/him), NRP’s National Secretary (coleman.jam@/northeastern .edu) containing more info about joining the meeting. Don’t forget to add it to your calendar after you registered! 🗓

While our meeting is going to be virtual, most of the meeting will be pretty similar to our in-person meetings from previous years, if you’ve attended one of those!

We’ll have a keynote speaker, acknowledge our 2019-2020 award recipients, our newest chapters, and discuss topics like our 2021-2022 theme!

Have any questions? Need any accommodations? DM us and we’ll be happy to help! We hope to see you there 🤗
We hope everybody is healthy and settling into the We hope everybody is healthy and settling into the new school year! Our theme for the 2020-2021 academic year is.... drum roll please 🥁🥁🥁... the gut-brain connection! The Gut-Brain Axis is an exciting field of research in neuroscience that has completely erupted over the last several years, and we’re excited to focus on it this year!

Reminder that our Chapter Activity Grants (CAGs) are due on October 1st. Virtual events ARE eligible for CAGs! More information and the application can be found through the link in our bio.

If you’ve attended one of our national members meetings in the past, you may remember that we usually break into smaller groups to discuss multiple topics, including ideas for next year’s theme. With SfN being cancelled this year, we’re going virtual with our member’s meeting (October 22nd, more on this soon!), and we want to collect some ideas in advance. The Google doc link is listed on the last photo if you have ideas you’d like to share 💭

Neuroscience fact: "A small portion of the population experiences synaesthesia: they may hear colors, smell words, or see a concept in a spatial location. First discovered in the 19th century, this mixing of the senses is a perceptual condition. While synaesthesia may be caused by brain trauma or degeneration, many people report symptoms from an early age." - The Huffington Post

As an affiliated investigator in the Neuroscience and Robotics Lab (NxR) at Northwestern, her work focuses on exploring the sense of touch. Current efforts in the lab focus developing a computational model for how sensory information from the whiskers of rats is coded and processed in the nervous system and how this information is used to explore the rat’s environment and guide its actions.
