This will be a virtual event and will be open to all inducted members\, prospective members\, and those who are interested in learning more about the organization. \nThis is an opportunity to learn about the various resources and awards available to our members\, as well as provide the Executive Council feedback so we can better serve our membership. \nOur keynote speaker will be Dr. Eva Telzar\, professor and program director of Developmental Psychology in the Department of Neuroscience & Psychology at UNC – Chapel Hill\, and the co-director of the Winston National Center on Technology Use\, Brain\, and Psychological Development. Dr Telzer studies how social and cultural processes shape adolescent brain development\, with a focus on both prosocial and risk-taking behaviors\, family and peer relationships\, and the role of social media in youth’s lives. DESCRIPTION:The International Neuroethics Society and the International Youth Neuroscience Association have opened their international\, 11th annual Neuroethics Essay Contest\, and are calling for submissions from students and early career scientists like you! \nEssays can cover any topic in neuroethics that addresses an issue at the intersection of the mind and brain with law\, ethics\, and society. Authors are encouraged to be creative in their approach. \nStudents at all education levels enrolled in a degree-seeking program\, including post-baccs who are actively applying to education programs and those in training programs or postdoctoral positions\, are eligible to apply to the following categories: \n\nGeneral Audience Essay: “exploring a topic or story at the interface between ethics\, neuroscience\, and society in plain language for the general public… aimed at non-specialist audiences” in 1000 words maximum;\nAcademic Essay: “critically explor[ing] a current issue in neuroethics through rigorous\, evidence-based argumentation” in 2000 words maximum; and\nVideo Essay: “explore a topic or story at the interface between ethics\, neuroscience\, and society in plain language for the general public” between 5-7 minutes.\n\nAuthors of winning submissions will receive a $500 prize\, and authors of honorable mention submissions will receive a $250 prize. \nEssay submissions are due by July 5\, 2024.
